The
City of Cannon Beach is committed to ensuring that our website is
accessible to everyone. We strive to meet federal government standards
for making Web content and applications usable for persons with
disabilities and to fulfill the mandate of Section508 of the Rehabilitation
Act Amendments of 1998. The standards are found on the U.S. Government’s
Section 508 Web site.
Our
web application developers have adopted several key accessibility
standards for our City Internet site including:
•
Providing text for all graphic elements;
• Designing web pages so that all information conveyed with
color is also available without color; and
• Designing web pages so that all critical content components
will be visible within the 800 x 600 resolution setting.
We
have also developed an Accessibility Action Plan to guide accessibility
improvements to our website. Key components of the Action Plan are:
•
To perform periodic assessments of our
Internet site using accessibility testing software to validate our
site for Section 508 requirements and to identify areas of the website
that have accessibility issues;
• To systematically correct website
pages that have identified problems through a prioritized approach
that corrects most frequently visited pages first followed by pages
that are less frequently visited;
• To review all new and modified
web pages to ensure that they are accessible.
• To conduct browser compatibility
testing to ensure our website is compatible with the latest versions
of all major Web browsers; and
• To investigate, design and implement
capabilities for creating printer friendly pages for allowing easy
printing.
