Short Term RentalsOn November 5, 2004, the Cannon Beach City Council adopted Ordinance 04-09A. That ordinance established new City regulations for the rental of dwelling for periods of thirty days or less. The ordinance included a provision that transient rental business license holders could apply for a new annual transient rental permit. The ordinance also stipulates that the City will issue five-year transient rental permits, by means of random selection, when a transient rental permit is revoked so that a total of 92 permits are maintained. As transient rental permits becomes available, the City conducts a lottery (randomly selects) property owner names from a list of individuals who wish to apply for a five-year permit. Click here to apply for the lottery. The last lottery was held on December 30, 2011 in which (4) four permits were available and January 12, 2012 in which (2) two permits were available.
The City will notify only those property owners who are selected. Additionally, the information will be posted below on this web page. If you previously submitted a lottery form, your name will be retained on the list to be considered in future lotteries, provided that your name has not already been selected. In addition to regulations regarding transient rentals, Ordinance 04-09A allows any property owner to apply for a vacation home rental permit, provided that they do not already hold a transient rental permit. Presently, there are 96 active vacation home rental permits.
