The City of Cannon Beach is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Utility Worker I. This position is assigned to the Wastewater division of Public Works, under the lead of the Assistant Public Works Director. Work hours are generally 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday with rotational on-call/standby duties weekends and evenings.
Requirements: Graduation from high school or equivalent, valid driver’s license, one year of light construction/maintenance work or general labor, and the ability to work with hand and power tools is required. Strenuous physical work is required which may involve lifting heavy objects, bending twisting, working above the ground/in trenches or in confined spaces or on irregular surfaces, usually out of doors in conditions that may be wet and cold or otherwise unpleasant working conditions; occasional call out after regular working hours.
Duties include general maintenance, mowing, trimming, litter removal, washing vehicles, operating hand and power tools and other equipment, recording readings in the water and wastewater plants, testing potable water for chlorine levels, checking the wastewater pump stations, responding to customer calls, and operation of a personal computer. This position may be asked to assist all departments in Public Works.
The successful candidate will exhibit a professional attitude, demonstrate the ability to take direction from a superior, enjoy working with the public and take pride in his/her work. The position is included in the city’s OPEU/SEIU bargaining unit.
Excellent benefit package; Salary range: $3,142 to $4,012 per month, or $18.13 - $23.15 per hour.
