In April 2023, our Parks & Community Services Committee members will once again host a 12 Days of Earth Day celebration with a parade and street fair, as well as numerous other activities to honor our earth. We hope you'll join us, starting April 11 and continuing for 12 days, by doing something in honor of our beloved earth. You can celebrate 12 Days of Earth from near or far!
Consider any of these ideas: Plant a tree, check and repair your leaky faucets and toilet flappers (save water), develop a more robust recycling plan for your home or business (our drop-off center is open!), turn your yard into an oasis for birds and other creatures, plant a garden, join a volunteer group that focuses on environmental goals, adopt a highway and pick-up trash, change your light bulbs to environmentally friendly bulbs, adopt a creature and join a group that focuses on the support of that animal or species (join our HRAP team as a volunteer), or build a bird house!
Whatever you choose, we appreciate you, your family, and friends celebrating this important time of year right along with us!

Roy Lowe is a photographer and resident of Waldport, Oregon. He was employed with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for more than 37 years and was the Project Leader for the Oregon Coast National Wildlife Refuge Complex upon his retirement in 2015.

Please join us as we work to restore our Sitka Spruce Forest Reserve. It is a town treasure that needs a bit of TLC and community love before the invasive species take over. What better way to spend a few hours, "forest bathing" and working together to help the trees which give us so much in return.
Saturday, April 15 - "Worms Eat My Garbage" Composting Workshop

In this workshop we will get “up close and personal” with worms, learning how our organic waste can be made into compost by feeding it to worms that eat food scraps, cardboard, newspaper, and junk mail. We will learn how to make a basic worm composting bin so you can begin turning your food waste into Black Gold.
Sunday, April 16 - Guided Bird Walk with Hannah Buschert
- 9 am at the viewing platform at the Lagoons
One of the best birding spots in Cannon Beach is the local settling ponds. Join local birder, Hannah, for a walk throughout the property where we'll look and listen for resident and migratory birds. Bring binoculars, if you have them, and there will be a few pairs for folks to borrow. Be prepared to walk on and off developed trails in a moderately strenuous 1-mile hike. Waterproof boots are recommended as the trail may be wet. All skill levels are welcome!

In this workshop we will whip up a batch of cold processed soap and delve into the simple cleaning recipes our grandmothers used to make with a twist using pure essential oils to make cleaning a truly eco-friendly experience. These cleaners are safe, effective, inexpensive, and you may already have many of the ingredients needed in your kitchen cupboards. Take home handmade soap, natural cleaners and a booklet of natural cleaning recipes.

How To Help Birds - A presentation featuring Hannah Buschert and Erik Ostrander. Hannah and Erik are passionate birders and producers of the podcasts "Hannah and Erik Go Birding," "Women Birders (Happy Hour)," and "Bird Nerd Book Club." During the evening presentation they will talk about how we can help birds conquer challenges.

Friday, April 21 - Haystack Rock Awareness Program -- 6th Annual Nudibranch Safari
- 8 am - 9 am at Haystack Rock, Cannon Beach
Come out to Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach and joing the Haystack Rock Awareness Program (HRAP) on April 21st from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. for the 6th Annual Nudibranch Safari. For an hour, you will discover and assist Lisa Habecker, Education and Volunteer Coordinator and resident nudibranch lover, in an attempt to find all the species of nudibranch commonly found in the tidepools at Haystack Rock. The event is free, fun, and engaging for learners of all ages. We hope to see you there!

- 11 am at Hemlock St. between 1st & 3rd St. (Downtown Cannon Beach)
- Parade participants may begin lining up at 10:00 am
The parade will take place on April 22, starting at 11:00. We will stage in the “Antler” public parking lot at Spruce and 3rd St., and will step off at 11:00, going briefly west on 3rd and then south on Hemlock to 1st St.

- Aldervale Native Plants: (503) 812-9965 (Open by appointment. Call, text, or phone): A PNW native plant nursery specializing in plants native to the coastal PNW and the Willamette Valley. Our business was started to encourage folks to invite nature into their yards by adding native plants. We also teach and promote naturescaping (a landscaping method that makes yards more pollinator and bird-friendly). We will have demonstration plants as well as plants for sale.
- Pacific Power has partnered with Dennis' 7 Dee's Garden Center to provide vouchers for trees as part of their commitment to Earth Day 2023! Eligible participants can qualify for a voucher towards the purchase of a tree or other planting supplies. A limited number of vouchers will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Demonstration Booths On:
- Waste Not Want Not! - We will be demonstrating how to create both a worm composting bin and a hot composting pile. Don’t let your green ‘waste’ and food ‘waste’ go to waste - turn it into Garden Gold!
- Eco-Friendly Gift Wrapping and a Gift to Mother Nature! - We will be demonstrating how to recycle your newspaper, paper bags and magazines into creative gift wrapping paper and envelopes. Make your own envelopes using magazine pages and take home organic kale and parsley seeds in them.
- It is Easy Being Clean! - We will demonstrate how to make natural cleaners and how to turn your used plastic bottles into beautiful decoupaged containers to hold your cleaners. Natural cleaning recipes will also be shared.
- Mother Nature needs you...Fairies, Elves, and Gnomes Unite! - Create a Nature Crown and let the world know you are a “Friend of Nature"- Make your own Nature Crown using flower petals, leaves, twigs and more!

Join SOLVE, the City of Cannon Beach, and Pacific Alarm Systems for a beach cleanup! Help us protect marine life and maintain the beauty of our coast.
This beach cleanup is family-friendly, and volunteers of all ages will find the event fun and rewarding. Remember our ocean shores can be dangerous. Avoid logs in the water. Keep your distance from marine mammals, and never turn your back on the ocean! If you find any hazardous material, please alert your Beach Captain. And remember, it’s more fun to work as part of a team. Bring a buddy, stay safe and have fun!
