The City of Cannon Beach is seeking an individual skilled in manual laboring work with responsibility for performing duties primarily requiring physical exertion. Duties include, but are not limited to, receiving and sorting recyclable materials by categories; bale, stack or otherwise organized for storage. Maintain recycling center for a clean and orderly environment; dispose of non-recyclable materials. Maintain record of activities. Operate light truck, bailer, compactor and forklift. Assist other departments as needed.

Requirements: Graduation from high school or equivalent; possession of a valid Oregon driver’s license. A forklift operator’s certificate is preferred. Must possess the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with the public and other personnel. The work is performed outside in all types of weather and involves strenuous manual labor including lifting or moving tools or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. A successful candidate must pass a 
background check. The hours for this position will be Tuesday through Saturday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

This position may assist all departments in Public Works. The successful candidate will exhibit a professional attitude, demonstrate the ability to take directions from a superior, enjoy working with the public, and take pride in his/her work. The position is included in the city’s OPEU/SEIU bargaining unit.

Excellent benefit package. Salary range, depending on experience:

Utility Worker I - $3,794 to $4,841 per month, or $21.89 - $27.93 per hour.
